In the region, we will play Logrono Golf Club (longest Par 5 in Spain), Sojuela, Rioja Alta and if possible Izki (Seve design). There will be ample opportunity to sample the regional delicacies, none other than the Rioja wines with visits to the Vivanco (best wine museum in the world) and the Marques de Riscal wineries. The food ain't half bad neither with Northern Spain well recognised for its gastronomy.

As always, this trip is only open to confirmed EGTMA members and please indicate your interest via email to jo.maes@me.com. The EGTMA and hosts reserve the right to approve or decline participation based on their requirements for media coverage from countries they focus their marketing efforts in.

EGTMA - The Scandinavian, Copenhagen

The Scandinavian, located about 25 min north of Denmark's capital Copenhagen, is one of the few clubs with both courses consistently ranked in the top 50 of bet golf courses in Continental Europe. The club provides discerning golfers with a choice of 36 holes, designed by Robert Trent Jones II which are laid out in 500 acres of forest separated by streams leading into natural ponds. Both the 'Old Course' as the 'New Course' offer immaculately moved and fast putting surfaces with an uninterrupted and tranquil golf experience unlike anything else in Denmark.

There will be a total of three events at the Scandinavian this year. As they have limited lodging facilities on site (3 bedroom lodge en suite on site) we will start with two events with selected EGTMA members from destinations the club wants to attract visitors from. A third event later in the year will see the Scandinavian team up with local hotels to provide more EGTMA members the option to experience the resort.

EGTMA, Golf without Borders - Lough Erne/Slieve Russell 2017

  • Lough Erne Golf resort/Slieve Russell (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Irish border is firmly in the news with Brexit but the counties of Fermanagh in Northern Ireland and Cavan in Ireland are the counties of numerous lakes and no where better visible than at the Lough Erne Golf Resort. Situated on its own peninsula surrounded by Castlehume Lough on the one side and the massive Lough Erne on the other, the recent edition to the Irish golf crown has already won many accolades. Due to its peninsula setting it was ideal to host the G8 summit when Obama, Cameron, Merkel, Putin and co descended onto Fermanagh to decide on world matters.

Lough Erne Championship golf, designed by Nick Faldo and opened by both Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington in a head to head match, is a magnificent golf course. Water is the dominant force on this golf course with lakes and streams acting as deterrent for any heroics. The hotel where a roaring fire welcomes you overlooks Castlehume Lough and is as cosy as only Irish hotels can be.

Lough Erne Golf Resort

Lough Erne Golf Resort

We combine this fabulous resort with a firm favourite amongst Irish golfers with the Slieve Russell Hotel. Designed by Paddy Merrigan and often heralded by the recently deceased Christy O'Connor Jr as a course he never got bored of and inspired him in his designs, this lush parkland course with 50 acres of lakes to contend with is a treat to play.

For this event, members will be required to fly into Dublin where a transfer of approx 2 hours to Lough Erne awaits.

EGTMA 'Martin's Golf Pass' Discovery by Martin's Hotels, Belgium
May
2
to May 5

EGTMA 'Martin's Golf Pass' Discovery by Martin's Hotels, Belgium

Participate in the EGTMA 'Martin's Golf Pass' Discovery by Martin's Hotels.

EGTMA members will stay in the wooded outskirts of Brussels at the Chateau Du Lac in Genval. This upscale 5* hotel in a 19th-century style castle is across from the Genval lake and a 10-minute walk from Genval train station. It's also 12 km from Musée Hergé, the cartoonist and creator of Tintin.

During the summer of 2015, 36 Charming guest rooms were completely renovated in an Urban Chic − a combination of romantic and vintage chic − style. The use of noble materials, the castle-inspired carpets, tones at once restrained and dynamic, the modern and subtly retro furnishings … all contribute to creating a space that unites comfort with well-being. The bathrooms evoke a Zen atmosphere set against organic elements (imitation wood floor, exposed rock in the shower). High Tech Equipment (large flat screen Smart television, USB plugs, Bluetooth connection). The new Charming rooms are provided with a double canopy bed or nicely appointed ‘twins’.

Over the past months, the Martin's Hotels Group, have also added some more properties to their hotel portfolio and would like to show golf in and around their hotels. The newest property, Martin's Red Hotel, home of the Red Devils, the Belgian National Football teams  also houses their training facilities and this now brings the group offering up to 9 hotels with a total of 745 rooms.

During our visit, we will play two new courses with Mont Garni and Enghien and return to Golf de Hulencourt, one of Belgium's most prestigious venues. All these courses are easily accessible both from Brussels National Airport as Charleroi or Brussels South. Mont Garni and Enghien are located in the province of Hainaut, a former industrial and mining area, where tourism has now become one of the main contributors to the local economy.

Mont Garni, designed by Irishman Tom McAuley is a Par73 and one of the longest courses in Belgium. Laid out around a clubhouse built on Anglo-Norman remains, it meanders in and out of the hilly woodlands of Hainaut.

Enghien, a small town in the middle of the province of Hainaut now offers a full 18 hole golf course. Situated in the historic 'Parc d'Arenberg', the 18 Holes layout was designed by Belgian architect Bruno Steensels who also designed last time's venue Millennium Golf.

Hulencourt, built on historic grounds dating back to 930AD and around a historic fortified farmhouse, is owned by the Solvay family. Le Vallon, the 18-hole championship courses is designed by the French architect Jean-Manuel Rossi and has the characteristics of an 'inland links'.
