Doing golf ... the Monte Rei way.

Doing golf ... the Monte Rei way.

During a recent visit to Monte Rei (Dec 2015), Donal Hughes, Ireland made the following report:

Every week or month there is always a new resort claiming to be bigger, better, longer and whatever they can come up with but there are only a few that truly live up to the expectations ... Monte Rei is one of them as the style and quality of the resort is truly unsurpassed.

Monte Rei provides golfers with the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course in Portugal. It is located in the Eastern part of the Algarve near the Spanish border. In fact, from certain vantage points on the course and clubhouse, you can see the Spanish hills in the distance. Jack Nicklaus was hands on in delivering a world class venue and golfers certainly won’t be disappointed. Consistantly ranked at the top of European golf courses, the Par 72 layout meanders through valleys and inbetween hills and lakes. When playing one hole, you can be forgiven for thinking you are alone on this golf course, such is the vastness of the place.

Over the years, the EGTMA has had the pleasure and privilege to organise the end of year Media Masters at Monte Rei and it has very much become a place away from home for many of our members. Luxuriously appointed villa’s provide a warm welcome to golfing guests and feature all the amenites one might see in the most lavish of hotels, but at Monte Rei this is not the exception. From the clubhouse, restaurants, villa’s, Spa and leisure facilities … the golf course is merely an extension of the oppulant surroundings where not a blade of grass is out of place. The Catalina Restuarant for example, offers an inventive menu, a mix of Algarve and Catalan dishes with a contemporary touch. The driving range is of such quality a tour venue would be delighted with ... Monte Rei leaves nothing to chance. With greens always 10+ on the stimp meter, bunkers where the sides are brushed with a mixture of sand and lime so they don’t cave and the ball does not plug in the side, immaculate tees and fairways and polished buggies … this is golf at its best.

Amidst all of this, Monte Rei still provides a down to earth service where the welcome is based on what the best American country clubs offer. There are good offers available which include accomodation, dinners, golf on the Jack Nicklaus signature course which includes a buggy, strokesaver and other goodies.

Monte Rei is one of the, if not the, classiest resort the EGTMA has had the pleasure and privilege of staying in.
